Modal Verbs – Would
Would is the past tense form of will.

Request
Would you open the window, please? (more polite than: Open the window, please.)
Would you help me? (more polite than: Will you help me?)
Would you know the answer? (more polite than: Do you know the answer?)

Future in the past
She promised she would visit me.
I thought it would rain so I brought my coat.

Offer
I would help you with your English.

Would for conditionals
We often use would to express the conditionals:
I wouldn't eat that if I were you.
If you asked me I would say you should travel.

Would for uncertainty
It would appear that he was wrong.

Would for wish
I wish she would stay.
My boss wish I would resign.
